The County High School, Leftwich 'Explorers'

Continuing to offer an enhanced transition programme exclusively to our feeder Primary Schools, for the academic year 2024-2025, Leftwich Explorers will become even more inclusive.  

All eligible Year 6 students at our feeder Primary Schools will be invited to attend two blocks of sessions each, covering a 5 week period.  Each Tuesday, from 4pm – 5pm, Year 6 students will be allocated a place to explore their comprehension and command of knowledge, skills, character and creativity and imagination across either English, Maths or D&T,  per block. Supported by subject specialists encompassing a range of exciting and innovative resources, Year 6 students will begin their period of transition to High School.

5 22/4/25 – 20/5/25 Kingsmead, Moulton, Comberbach
6 10/6/25 – 8/7/25 Leftwich, Witton Church Walk, Gt Budworth

 

English Overview

Students will become a ‘News Team’ and will discover what it means to be a journalist, developing a topical story and delivering a live report using our ‘green screen’ technology. Through this project, students will engage in learning which utilises and enhances their spelling, punctuation, grammar and comprehension skills, adapted according to their ability.

Maths Overview

Using a range of tools including models and manipulatives, the understanding of arithmetic, proportional reasoning, and geometry, this will lead to improved confidence in ability, enthusiasm for Mathematics and pride in achievements. Students will be encouraged to talk mathematically with each other and support each other so that they can tackle unfamiliar problems with confidence and excitement.

D&T Overview

Students will learn how to safely work in the workshop to create a pencil holder made from Polymers. They will use a variety of different tools and equipment to develop skills such as line bending, edge finishing Acrylic and using CAD to create vinyl stickers. Through this project students will demonstrate creativity, develop their ability to problem solve and build their confidence in the workshop environment.

Please note, we are unable to accommodate specific subject preferences. Students will be allocated a space across the three subjects offered.
