Creative Computing & Media - Year 9


In Creative Computing and Media Year 9 students have three lessons a fortnight. They have opportunities to In develop and expand their use of common software programmes and develop multi-media skills. Computer Science is developed further. All essential equipment is provided but a flash drive and headphones are useful. Students will use Desktop PCs, Cameras and Filmmaking equipment and use of the industry standard recording studio.

Media / Film Trailer  
Students will work in groups to create a film trailer for an imagined production. Costumes and props are a must for this project. They will examine more technical elements of film making such as mise en scene and develop their skills in making special effects in applications such as After Effects.

Computer Science / Problem Solving 
Students will analyse problems in computational terms through practical experience of solving such problems, including designing, writing and debugging programs. They will develop their understanding of subprograms passing data in and out of functions.

Students will understand the characteristics of data and information and how they help organisations in decision making. They will use data manipulation methods to create a dashboard to present and draw conclusions from information.

Students will complete the iDEA Duke of York Award. iDEA is a programme that helps students develop digital and enterprise skills. Through a series of online challenges and events, students can gain industry recognised awards.

Students will learn networks and its hardware and protocols. They will also practise and refine media production skills and techniques, e.g. editing voices, sound effects and a music bed into a radio jingle, combining text and images to create the front cover of a magazine, creating an image slideshow for a web page.
