Creative Computing & Media (ICT) - Year 11


  • Qualification title: Pearson BTEC Level 2 Tech Award in Digital Information Technology, QN: 603/2740/6
  • 1 x 1.5 hour external assessment and 2 x internal assessment tasks
  • Number of lessons a fortnight: 5

The qualification consists of three components that give learners the opportunity to develop broad knowledge and understanding of the digital sector and specialist skills and techniques in project planning, designing user interfaces and manipulating and interpreting data.

There are three learning aims for each of the internal assessment tasks. These are:

Component 1 A. Investigate user interface design for individuals and organisations; B. Use project planning techniques to plan and design a user interface; C. Develop and review a user interface.

Component 2 A. Investigate the role and impact of using data on individuals and organisations; B. Create a dashboard using data manipulation tools; C. Draw conclusions and review data presentation methods.

There are four Assessment Objectives (AOs) for the external assessment. These are:

Component 3 AO1 Demonstrate knowledge of facts, terms, processes and issues in relation to digital information technology; AO2 Apply an understanding of facts, terms, processes and issues in relation to digital information technology; AO3 Analyse, evaluate and make reasoned judgements about the use, factors and implications influencing digital information technology; AO4 Make connections with the concepts, issues, terms and processes in digital information technology.

Topic  Overview  Assessment 
Component 1 - Exploring user interface design principles and project planning techniques 
Students will develop their understanding of what makes an effective user interface and how to effectively manage a project. They will use this understanding to plan, design and create a user interface.  
Internal assessment  
Component 2 - collecting, presentingand interpreting data 
Students will understand the characteristics of data and information and how they help organisations in decision making. They will use data manipulation methods to create a dashboard to present and draw conclusions from information.

Component 3 - Effective Digital Working Practices 
Students will explore how organisations use digital systems and the wider implications associated with their use.
